When a person experiences allergic reactions after consuming foodstuff or product containing yeast then this condition is known as yeast allergy. Yeast can be in foodstuffs like bread, mushrooms, vinegar, cheese, beer, soy sauce and tomato sauce. Some common symptoms are headache, sneezing, skin rashes, diarrhea, white patches on tongue and vomiting. The best way to treat yeast allergy is to avoid food products containing yeast. Also one can opt for oral medicines to control the allergic reactions.

Causes of Yeast Allergy

There are two causes of yeast allergy. They are as follows:

  • Food: When a person consumes food like bread, beer, vinegar, dried fruit, tomato sauce, soy sauce, wine, peanuts and items that have fungus known as ‘Saccharomyces cerevisiae’. If a person feels tired or experience allergic symptoms then it is sure that the person is suffering yeast allergy.
  • When a person has an infection of yeast in the body known as Candidiasis it indicates yeast is growing in some areas of body. The moist parts of body like mouth and vagina are usually affected by it.

Symptoms of Yeast Allergy

Symptoms could occur within minutes and continue for hours if not treated. Some common symptoms of yeast allergy are:

Treatment of Yeast Allergy

Yeast allergy weakens the immune system and vital organs which leads to malfunctioning. Therefore it is necessary to diagnose and treat yeast allergy as soon as possible. The best way to avoid yeast allergy is to avoid consuming anything containing yeast. Beverages, refined sugar and penicillin connected drugs should be avoided. When a person suffers from anaphylaxis then one has to consult the medical expert immediately. If a person is already an anaphylaxis patient then that person should always carry two doses of epinephrine drug. Antihistamines drug like Benadryl reduces symptoms of yeast allergy. It is taken to control allergic reactions and helps in relieving uneasiness.

Other steps to keep away from exposure to yeast and ensure quick treatment for sudden yeast allergy are as follows:

  • Diet: Eat a well balanced diet, drink lots of water, yogurt and get adequate sleep. This will make the immune system strong which will help to control the allergic reactions.
  • One should read the food labels carefully and shop in stores that provide yeast-free alternative food items. Also one should be very careful when eating in hotels. The person should clearly inform the hotel staff about the allergy. One can derive information about various yeast-free recipes from the respective specialized books.

Yeast Allergy diet

The yeast free diet is to be eaten in a way similar to the way a person eats a low-carb diet.  A simple way to know if a person is allergic to wheat is he or she feels weak or tied after eating bread.  The symptoms reduce gradually after the person eliminates foods that contain yeast.

The foods that are a part of the yeast-free diet include

  1. Since vegetables do not contain yeast, they are  good as yeast-free foods. Just ensure that the vegetables are fresh, firm and not discolored.
  2. Fruits are also good to eat, but some varieties may have yeast in the skin. So it is better to peel their skin and eat in order to reduce allergy issues.
  3. Nuts and seeds are nutritious and do not have yeast.
  4. Fresh meat is yeast-free. Just make sure that you buy fresh, packaged meat that does not have any contaminated materials.
  5. Fresh fish and the canned variety are also free of yeast.  Prepare them without yeast based ingredients.
